Abacus Learning Institute (ALI) now has a complete MLC online course available for which I am the instructor. It includes over 160 learning videos and over 1100 exercises. There are also approximately 100 video solutions to exercises and practice problems. All of the pension mathematics, new to the Spring 2016 exam, is included.
Jim Daniel is the Director of Actuarial Education at ALI. He was gracious enough to let me attend one of his face-to-face MLC seminars so that I could see his approach to teaching the topics on the exam. I found this very useful, and I included many of his techniques in my ALI course. So this course is combination of "best practices" between Jim and me. As for the new material, my approach to some of the topics (e.g. the calculation of normal cost) is very different than what is presented in the book and draws on my previous work experience as a pension consultant before I took my current teaching position. The new pension material is a small part of the EA-2F (Funding) exam, which I passed many years ago, when it used to be called EA-2A.
The entire ALI online course consists of 5 modules. We are planning to offer free access to Module 1 to a limited number of users for the month of December. As you can see from the attached Table of Contents for Module 1, we present the material in a different order than the textbook or other study sources. The order that we present the topics is more logical to us for several reasons, one of which being that much of the actuarial notation used to distinguish different types of insurances and annuities is actually first formulated within the survival analysis framework.
ALIs Online MLC Course can be purchased separately or in combination with a live face-to-face 5-day seminar. I will be the instructor for ALIs live face-to-face Exam MLC seminar in Atlanta, GA, on March 4-8, and Jim will be the instructor for ALIs live face-to-face Exam MLC seminar in Davis, CA, on March 9-13.
