Cover Letter Critique

Hi everyone,

Below is my cover letter for a non-actuarial pricing summer internship. Any advice is appreciated!

Dear Hiring Manager,

With great enthusiasm, I am applying for the _______ at _______. Through this internship, I hope to grow my knowledge of the insurance industry while developing the analytical and business skills important in becoming an industry leader.

With my work and extracurricular experience, I believe that I have the interpersonal and leadership skills necessary to positively contribute to the company. As publicity coordinator for the ____ College Office of _________, I regularly provided my own knowledge and insight to media and advertising efforts and clearly communicated my ideas to people with differing levels of design and publication experience. In my involvement in The _____ newspaper, I provided guidance to peers with less design experience and coordinated their abilities and strengths to produce a product of high quality.

Through my coursework in statistics, I have gained the ability to find relevant conclusions to data sets and apply conclusions to predictive models. Through various projects, I have learned to integrate computer programming in languages such as R to analyze data and answer statistical questions. And having taken SOA Exam FM/2, I have demonstrated an interest in understanding the insurance industry, as well as the discipline, organization and initiative to learn industry-specific concepts.

I welcome any opportunity to further discuss the internship. At your convenience, please contact me at (###) ###-#### or namehere@email.com. Thank you for taking the time to consider my application.

Sincerely,

First Last
