I have a question about gun control

Some people on the internet have told me that if we are able to make it harder for people to obtain guns, there would be less gun violence. While I think that would be true, how easy/hard would it be to enforce prohibition on firearms?

When we banned alcohol, people drank anyway. When we banned hard drugs like marijuana and cocaine, people did those anyway too. And coinciding with that was a large increase in organized crime and gang related violence.

I was thinking, if someone really wants to buy an AK 47 or it doesn't seem too hard for them to do so. Would an outright gun ban without a corresponding decrease in firearm demand lead to a rise in violent organized crime? Or would we become more docile like Japan or Germany?
