I work in consulting and have long hair about shoulder length that I either let down or to be more professional put in a bun. My boss recently stated casually that he was concerned it would be looked down upon by clients and it's a reason he might consider not bringing me to client meetings.
He wasn't telling me to cut it and honestly I'd probably quit my job before I let my company make me cut my hair, more out of principle than vanity, but wanted to know what the AO thinks about the subject. For example would you cut your hair for an interview, to look good for clients etc.
Additional FYI in case it's relevant: I follow more fashion rules than most at my company (probably second best dressed), always wear well fitted professional business casual, including the occasional sports coat, nice shoes etc. and don't look like the stereotypical unkempt actuary. It's not my cup of tea, I didn't even own a polo until I bought one realizing a T-shirt wasn't appropriate for casual Friday, but I try to conform with the norms.
