The Life and Health (L&H) Actuarial Unit of the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (Office) is seeking a Senior Actuarial Analyst. He/she confirms compliance with state and federal regulations as well as all Actuarial Standards of Practice. This is a full-time position. Duties and Responsibilities (Incumbent of position is a member of DFS Disaster Response Team and, in that capacity, may be required on short notice to perform duties and necessary attendant travel in support of disaster relief efforts.)
Performs independent complex actuarial calculations related to the review and analysis of life and health insurance rate filings. Determines compliance with state insurance laws and determines if rates are reasonable and adequate. Directs, conducts and supervises insurance or data related studies or projects per management, legislature, media and public requests. Assembles, reviews and analyzes data submitted using computer application to perform actuarial work. Designs and implements procedures to ensure data integrity and retrieval for both enterprise and local systems. Consults with other Office staff on problems or questions concerning actuarial matters including evaluating trends. Functions as a business expert for the Office in enterprise operations. Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED/ENTRY-LEVEL KSAs (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
Knowledge of actuarial principles and procedures with the ability to apply actuarial principles and techniques.
Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing, and analyzing data.
Ability to monitor actuarial assumptions.
Ability to use computer applications to perform actuarial work.
Ability to review and analyze insurance industry rate filings.
Ability to solve problems and make decisions.
Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to statistical research and analysis.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work activities.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to organize time effectively.
Education requirements and/or preferences below:
College degree in Actuarial Science or related field. Mathematics courses including Calculus, Statistics, Probability, Economics (Micro/Macro). Business courses including Accounting and Investments.
Experience requirements and/or preferences below:
Must have passed at least three (3) Actuarial Exams and have 2+ years of actuarial work experience. Experience in C++, Excel, Access, SAS and SQL is a plus.
