Hi everyone, this is my first ever post so please let me know if I make any mistakes.
I'm a recent graduate with Bachelor in Actuarial Science. I've taken 2 exams (FM, P) in the span of 3 month (10/2015 - 01/2016). I changed major from Biology and Business Adm to actuary during my junior year, big stretch I know. And I've spend the last yr just to catch up all the coursework so I could graduate soon. Result of that is that I didn't realize I need to find internship and social more with other people from the industry. Now my biggest problem is that I don't have any actuary related experience whatsoever. I've only worked 2 jobs: pharm tech(current), restaurant server.
So my questions are:
1. Where/How should I look for jobs? (I've used indeed, careerbuilder, monster, glassdoor, some local company websites)
2. What other type of positions should I be looking at if there's not much opening in the actuary department of a company? (I heard data analyst is a good place to start).
3. I barely got 1,2 interview and they're not even for the actuarial positions. Is it because my resume has flaws? (That's before I added exam P on my resume recently)
I'll attach my resume here (please let me know if I left any sensitive info out, thank you)
Attachment 35107
4. What kind of interview style does the actuarial positions usually have? behavior, 'tell me about your experience', case interview...etc.
5. I notice that a lot openings require SQL, access...etc skills. If I haven't learn these in school, can I learn the basics by myself and put it on my resume? (For example, I found this Vertabelo Academe that teaches basic SQL online for free)
6. Generally what should I do now to make myself more sell-able?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Thank you!
