The Opportunity:
We are recruiting for an Assistant Health Actuary to join the New England Health Practice in the Boston office. The Assistant Health Actuary is integral to supporting the delivery of a broad and diverse range of group health benefits consulting services to our clients. The Health Practice is a dynamic and continually growing business and offers significant visibility, client interaction, and opportunities to perform as an influential member of client teams and to learn and develop broad expertise in the current and emerging areas of the health benefits field through participation in special projects.

The Role:
The Assistant Health Actuary works collaboratively with colleagues and clients in providing analyses, data interpretation, research, communications and related actuarial health consulting services in an integrated and thorough approach that meets clients’ needs. Assistant Health Actuaries perform these duties at a high level of proficiency to produce quality, error-free deliverables for clients. Additional responsibilities may include: analyzing health costs and trends, funding and contributions strategies, reserve calculations, Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage cost analysis, health and retiree health actuarial valuations, preparation of quarterly and annual financial reports, renewal analyses, benefit plan pricing, analyses of complex technical data with regard to health benefit plans, preparing budget projections, claims cost analysis, and reviewing work for technical accuracy.

The Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5-7 years of prior related work experience in health benefits consulting, health actuarial or with a health insurance carrier as well as be or pursuing a Fellow or an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, and a Member of the Academy of Actuaries. A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably within a math, science, actuarial science or other quantitatively-oriented field of study. Critical skills include the ability to work independently with limited direction; strong analytical (data, statistics, math, technical, reasoning) skills; being decisive, action-oriented, and detailed; ability to thrive in fast-paced environment and manage stressful situations and multiple conflicting deadlines tactfully; proficiency in project management (managing projects within time constraints and budget parameters); excellent follow-through; proficiency using computer software; and strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
