The Life and Health (L&H) Actuarial Unit of the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (Office) is seeking a candidate to perform and/or lead actuarial reviews of models, assumptions, and documentation for financial oversight. He/she confirms compliance with state and federal regulations as well as all Actuarial Standards of Practice. The successful candidate will perform and clearly communicate accurate and insightful analysis of modeling, risk management, and valuation on an enterprise-wide basis. This is a full-time position. Relocation to Tallahassee, FL is preferred but not required. Growth and permanent employment opportunities may be available within the Office. Functional Responsibilities:
Manage and/or perform reviews of product review memorandums including PPACA products.
Make recommendations to the Deputy Director of Actuarial and the Chief Actuary regarding the adequacy or excessiveness of proposed PPACA premium rates.
Be the lead reviewer of LTC rate increases.
Keep senior management up to date on relevant NAIC discussions.
Act as a consultant to other Office staff on actuarial matters.
Potential to manage 1 or 2 actuarial analysts assisting in rate reviews.
Work on special projects independently or with other areas as needed.
Job Requirements:
Bachelors degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or a related degree
3+ years related actuarial experience to include working with actuarial models for reporting, pricing, and/or valuation
ASA designation and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries
Proficient in Excel, familiar with Access and/or SQL
Excellent technical, mathematical, and analytical abilities
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to work productively with various levels of management
Desired Competencies:
5+ years related actuarial experience
LTC pricing experience
ACA regulations and pricing experience
Experience managing or mentoring others
Salary:
Salary range ($75K - $120K) will be commensurate with education and experience.
