I'm most likely going to be playing a tournament tomorrow. It's a 2-day tournament (assuming I make it that far), with starting stacks at 12K, with 25-50 starting blinds, 30 minute levels. I don't have experience playing in large live tournaments like this, so I'm curious if you have any tips.
My thought is for the first several rounds, I just need to play very tight, solid poker, as there's really no reason to get myself in marginal spots early on. I probably just need to let all of the terrible players hang themselves early on and just hope they do so against a big hand that I make. I'm guessing that's my early round strategy and then as the blinds rise and players start to tighten up, I should begin to open up my game with more late position raises, etc.
I'm curious about the size of preflop raises and post flop betting. I was bread from the school of raise pre-flop 3-4x the big blind and then bet half the pot post flop, in most situations. It seems to be like raises nowadays have shrunk, more to a 2.5x. What are your thoughts?
