The Entry-Level question: technical vs personal

Hi everyone,

A little background, I'm a mid-level manager in a non-traditional consulting-esque role. We have a few entry-level analysts, and one in particular stands out as being average technically, but excels far above the others as personable/outgoing. My question is on the development of this individual. Perhaps this is for the consulting actuaries out there: how have you seen analysts such as the one I mentioned progress in the field? Should I treat a more personable analyst with different responsibilities than I would a more technical one? Or should I push hard into molding their technical abilities. I know my manager will be asking about the performance of the analysts at year end, would you more highly value the technical analysts or a personable one of average technical ability? Is the long term value of a personable analyst greater than the others?
