The Opportunity:
We are currently recruiting for a Benefits Consultant / Client Relationship Manager (CRM). This position will be located in Hartford, Connecticut. The individual will join a growing and dynamic team and step into a multi-faceted role that offers the opportunity to have a significant and positive impact on the continued growth of the health consulting business with a primary focus with the public sector and corporate market clients. The consultant is expected to develop into a key contributor within all of our markets. The role will include client management, project management and new business development. The individual will collaborate closely with management and staff members at all levels and within technical practices to deliver consulting services and to develop and implement strategic and tactical plans to market and sell our full-range of consulting services to clients and prospects. The consultant will oversee the servicing of key client relationships and serve as a team leader and/or project manager in the delivery of benefit consulting services.

The Role:
The consultant role includes primary relationship accountability for clients and overall responsibility for servicing and client satisfactions. A key part of the role also includes maximizing the profitability of client relationships, through both account management of current assignments, on behalf of the Firm, as well as expanding our relationship, e.g. cross selling other services of the Segal Group. Specifically, the consultant collaborates with others at Segal to: build and maintain effective and influential relationships within the client organization; develop and implement strategies to provide high quality, creative and integrated consulting services to clients; lead and/or participate in new business development initiatives targeting existing and prospective clients organizations; provide a high level of creative, innovative, technical expertise to colleagues and clients around the myriad of issues and emerging developments in the retirement plan industry. The consultant also directs and guides client teams and plays a proactive role in mentoring and developing staff, contributing to the overall intellectual and professional development within the teams.

Relationship Management: works well with colleagues both in practice area and in other practice disciplines; able to evaluate the skills and attitudes of client personnel; recognizes tactically difficult situations and seeks appropriate help; able to perform as lead or primary consulting contact on select clients.
Project Management: consistently manages own time effectively; requires little supervision; able to scope and plan resource requirements and manage project performance within budget, quality and timing guidelines; leads the delivery of consulting services to clients; supervises more junior staff as required with ability to perform as team leader.
Leadership: regularly works at passing on knowledge and consulting skills to others; recognized as a good mentor and motivator of junior staff; actively participates in identifying and attracting new talent to the organization.
Business Development: able to identify opportunities for extension on own projects; has potential/interest for developing leads and participating in business development and marketing initiatives.

Key Requirements:
The qualified candidate must have: a minimum of an undergraduate degree; a minimum of 10-12 years of experience within an employee benefits consulting and/or related professional services or corporate environment involving significant exposure to health plan strategies, concepts/approaches, design and implementation; sufficient familiarity with corporate sector organizations and benefit plans; has the ability to step immediately into a direct client contact role (knowledge of group health and/or managed care plans is a plus); strong business acumen and leadership ability; demonstrated success as a relationship builder/collaborator; demonstrated experience and success in managing client relationships; effective interpersonal and communication (oral/written) skills; ability to work collaboratively with a diverse audience of colleagues and clients; and ability to travel, as needed, to meet with clients and prospects throughout the Region.
