What's the most interesting gossip you heard at work?
One thing I enjoyed in my first job was to sit nearby other departments, because I could hear gossip news while working on some manual tasks. Not all data crunching tasks could be automated. An easy but boring task was to manually enter some rating information from different sources without auto extraction tools. But the fun part was to organize data in Excel with many functions and deliver results in pivot tables and graphs.
Other teams faced or called clients for sales or claims purposes would discuss not only work issues but also their daily lives everyday. So our entry levels could hear something new daily but actuaries were put into quieter area for advanced analysis work. I also heard some gossip news from actuaries occasionally, but I could not remember details.
